Breville is known for making high quality, top-end toasters. The BOV800XL redefines this category. The folks at Breville who designed this toaster recognized that there are a lot of toasters on the market that do a lot of different things, but they do some things well and other things not so well. So, their goal was to make a toaster that would do all toaster functions well.
However, they recognized that all the great functionality in the world would be useless if the toaster was difficult to use. So they focused on the user-interface, making it as simple as possible to change settings and take advantage of all of the features.
Choose from nine different cooking settings: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, or Warm. Each comes with a pre-set temperature and cooking time that you can easily modify as needed (see below).
This oven is far more versatile than others on the market, and probably more so than your regular conventional oven. Most ovens come with four heating elements to control heating. These elements are either on or off. The Breville BOV800XL has five quartz elements that are dynamically controlled much like a dimmer switch for lighting fixtures – that is, they aren’t just on or off but can put out whatever level of heat is needed to make the cooking near perfect. Additionally the BOV800XL has convection heating to give you the most versatile and powerful toaster oven available today.
All settings are controlled by a few knobs and an LCD display screen for ease of use. Each cooking setting comes with pre-set temperature and cooking time, which you will see on the LCD screen as you turn the knobs. Once you’ve chosen your cooking setting you can make adjustments to the temperature and cooking time as needed. You will appreciate how quickly you can set up the oven and how easily you can tell at a glance what the oven is doing at any moment.
Use the function button just below the display screen to select between the nine pre-programmed settings. The temperature and cooking time will automatically change for each setting. Once you’ve picked the function you want to do, simply the two larger dials, below, to adjust temperature and time accordingly.
You also have the ability to turn the convection fan on or off. There’s even a button to let the toaster know that what it is cooking is frozen so it can adjust accordingly.
For maximum ease of use, you can choose to view temperature settings in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
The interior easily holds six slices of toast and pans that are 12-13 inches wide.
The Breville BOV800XL, at $250, is one of the most expensive toaster ovens on the market. But you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a high-end toaster oven you will not likely find a better option.
If you have used this toaster please leave some comments about your experience with it, both positive and negative.
